PMI's Annual Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey Findings

New research from the Project Management Institute (PMI) indicates that project managers in Australia are among the highest paid in the profession globally, with median salaries reaching $150,000 a figure surpassed only by the United States.

Showcasing the lucrative financial opportunities available in various industries for proficient project practitioners.

Further insights indicate that professionals holding the esteemed Project Management Professional (PMP) certification make an average of 33% more than their non-certified counterparts, underscoring the value of professional certification in this realm.

Additionally, 66% of respondents reported an increase in total compensation the year before participating in the survey.

Countries where project professionals report substantial median salaries, besides Australia and the USA, include Germany (AUS$151,556), the United Kingdom (AUS$134,000), and Singapore (AUS$121,023).

Australian Professionals Recognise the importance of continuous education

The research suggests that amidst rising living costs and evolving career landscapes, Australian professionals must recognise the importance of continuous education and skill enhancement to stay competitive in today's job market.

SoHyun Kang, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at PMI, remarks, "Certified and skilled project professionals play a crucial role in project success. The reported rise in compensation is a true reflection of the value PMP-certified project professionals bring to their daily work, a trend that is encouraging to witness both in Australia and across Asia Pacific."

Moreover, the report highlights a connection between a project manager's salary and the scale of projects they oversee. In Australia, the median salary is AUS$120,817 for projects with budgets below AUS$152,000, escalating to AUS$201,000 for projects with budgets exceeding AUS$15million. 

PMP Certification: Research shows there are other advantages

Despite the apparent financial benefits of the PMP certification, research shows that there are other advantages as well. Nearly half of Australian respondents (46%) view their PMP certification as indispensable for their career progression.
